No chemical detected in Brigham City Pond

BRIGHAM CITY -- Chemicals were not the cause of a kill that left 4,000 fish dead in Pioneer Park Pond, according to tests by Chemtech-Ford Laboratories. The tests detected no chemical or other contaminant that caused the fish kill.

The Division of Wildlife Resources placed sentinel fish in the pond and observed no ill effect on the fish after three days. The DWR is preparing to stock the pond with rainbow trout this spring and channel catfish in the summer.

Anglers are reminded to follow the rules in the Utah Fishing Proclamation regarding Pioneer Park Pond and Mayors Pond. The introduction of fish other than those authorized by the DWR is illegal.

City Leisure Services, in cooperation with the DWR, is submitting a grant request to deepen the pond, line it with bentonite clay, adding rocks and tree stumps for fish habitat and placing pond aerators to add more oxygen to the water. The grant will be submitted in October.
