OGDEN NATURE CENTER Wildlife Wednesdays is presented every week at 3:30 p.m. People of all ages are invited to learn about some of Utah's native animal species up close and personal. Each week you'll meet a different animal and learn about their behavior, habitat, diet, unique characteristics and more. These casual lessons are presented by an Ogden Nature Center staff member trained in conservation biology, ornithology, education or natural sciences. Regular admission rates apply: $3 for ages 12-64, $1.25 for seniors and children 2-11. Ogden Nature Center members are free. The Ogden Nature Center is at 966 W. 12th St., Ogden. HIKING Weber Pathways continues its regular schedule of trail work at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the Weber Pathways Rail Trail at 4000 North, about 1.4 miles west of Smith and Edwards. A Friday night lights hike up Beus Canyon to follow the Bonneville Shoreline Trail past Strong, Waterfall, and Taylor canyons on May 30. We will end the evening trek at the 21st St. trailhead. The night lights are stunning. It will be 2.5 hours and 4.5 miles. Call Larry at 731-3701 for meeting place and time. "How and Where to Hike and Mountain Bike in Weber County" at 6 p.m. June 3, the Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St., Ogden. It's free for Ogden Nature Center members, $3 for nonmembers, recommended for ages 12 and up. Helene Liebman, executive director of Weber Pathways, will present a lively slide show on hiking and mountain biking in Weber County, with emphasis on trails in the mountains. Free, countywide hiking maps for all attendees. Call to pre-register. BIRDING Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge hosts wetland wings and other wild things at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Join Susan Snyder, Ogden Nature Center naturalist, as she introduces pre-school age youngsters to the life stories of refuge wildlife through storybooks, puppetry, wetland walks, and other activities. The wildlife program for ages 3-6, accompanied by a parent or teacher, is free. The May topic is bird babies. You must pre-register for this class as space is limited. Tenth annual Great Salt Lake Bird Festival, Farmington, Thursday-Monday. The 2008 keynote speaker is Bruce Thompson, director of education for Tracy Aviary. Special guest is photographer/author, Rosalie Winard, who will talk about her newly released book, "Wild Birds of the American Wetlands." The festival also includes booths, vendors, food, art, and youth programs from noon to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Davis County Event Center, 151 S. 1100 West, Farmington. Saturday youth programs include make-and-take bird houses sponsored by Home Depot, Centerville, crafts, displays, and scout badge information.
