WEEK'S BEST ...

Scofield

Ice is out and the lake is open. Anglers from shore are knocking them dead. The west side of the lake seems to be the best fishing. Shore anglers are producing using tube jigs, marabou jigs, or bait. Anglers are also having success trolling jointed rapalas, or spoons 100-plus feet behind the boat.

Strawberry Reservation

Ice off! Late last week, the ice began to pull away from the edges. It's still early to get a boat on, but shore anglers are hooking up. Fly anglers are striping sparkle woolly buggers in black, brown and olive. Spin anglers are producing using tube jigs, marabou jigs, worms or minnows. Pineview Reservoir

Crappie fishing has slowed with the recent weather, but should pick up later this week. Try fishing small tube jigs under a bobber, try tipping tubes with a piece of night crawler. The Spring Creek/Middle Fork area seems to be producing the most fish. Anglers are starting to catch a few muskies. Try throwing jointed Rapalas in perch or brown trout, Osprey or other swim baits, also try Mepps Musky Killers or spinner baits. Anglers are fishing from shore off of Cemetery Point or Browning Point. The bass fishing should start to pick up in the next couple of weeks.

THE REST ...

Provo River

Blue Wing Olive hatches are still being seen in late mornings, and early evenings. Fly-fishing anglers are having success on the middle section, just below Jordanelle Dam. If there is no surface action going on, try throwing small zebra midges or emergers patterns. Spin anglers are catching fish on floating or suspending Rapalas or Yozuri pin minnows.

Bear Lake

The lake is now ice-free. Fishing pressure is light. Anglers are trolling for the cutthroats in 10 to 20 feet of water. Try using size 9 or 11 jointed Rapalas in blue, Chartreuse, or trout patterns. The lake trout are deep, try jigging the rock piles with white, glow, or rainbow colored tube jigs, tipped with Cisco meat.

Blacksmith Fork

Fishing pressure is light and anglers are reporting good fishing the slow water above the power plant. Fly anglers are fishing small bead-headed nymphs or woolly buggers. Spin anglers try panther martin spinners or small floating stick baits.

Causey Reservoir

The lake is now ice-free. Shore anglers are having good success for splakes and small rainbows using night crawlers, power bait, tube jigs or spinners.

Deer Creek

Anglers are having good success trolling jointed Rapalas or spoons behind a downrigger. Try trolling 20 feet down and letting 50 to100 feet of line out behind the downrigger ball. A few walleyes are being picked up slow trolling bottom bouncers trailed with a worm harness.

East Canyon

Anglers are having good success trolling 20 feet down with a downrigger. Troll small jointed Rapalas or Needlefish anywhere from 50 to100 feet behind the downrigger ball. Shore anglers are having success using night crawlers or PowerBait.

Flaming Gorge

Anglers are reporting fast action on rainbows using a downrigger. Try trolling jointed Rapalas or small Needlefish 20 feet down anywhere from 50 to 100 feet behind the downrigger ball. A few Lakers are being picked up jigging white, glow, or rainbow colored tube jigs in 80 to 100 feet of water. The lake trout seem to be spread out right now, so be patient when looking for the big boys.

Green River

The A section under the dam has been fishing very well. Flows should stay at 800 cfs for the next little while. Fly anglers are reporting some awesome blue winged olive, and midge hatches in the late morning, and early afternoon. Size 18 to 22 Griffith's gnats, midge clusters, or small emergers. Anglers are pulling streamers to entice some of the bigger fish. A few terrestrials are starting to pop up. Spin anglers are having success throwing yo-zuri pin minnows or tube jigs. Jordanelle

Reports of a few rainbows being caught from shore, try night crawlers, or PowerBait. From a boat try trolling jointed Rapalas or small spoons 100 feet behind the boat. The bass should get active as the water warms up.

Logan River

Water in the canyon is high and muddy. Fishing the slow water by the dams has been productive. Try using PowerBait or night crawlers.

Ogden River

No sign of the stone flies yet. Anglers are reporting good fishing in the canyon. Try by the Oaks restaurant or around the Alaskan Inn. Fly anglers are reporting some good BWO hatches on warm cloudy days, if you are not seeing much surface action try bead headed hares ears, or prince nymphs. Spin anglers try throwing floating or husky jerk Rapalas or panther martin spinners.

Lake Powell

Water temperatures are now in the mid to upper 60's. Recent reports say that the lake is rising a foot every 4 days. The bass are starting to spawn. With the lake rising so much, the beds are a little deeper than normal. Try fishing the sandy coves with cover. The striper fishing is a little spotty. Anglers are finding schools on the south part of the lake, in 20 to 40 feet of water. Try chumming the schools of stripers to keep them active.

Rockport

Anglers are still having success fishing the inlet for rainbows. Fly fishing anglers are throwing streamers, or bead-headed nymphs trailed by a glo bug. Spin anglers try tube jigs or marabou jigs in black, brown, or olive.

Weber River

With the run off flowing, the lower section of the Weber is high and murky. Anglers are reporting good fishing between Echo and Rockport, also fish the inlets to the two lakes. The Taggerts and Croydon areas are also fishing well. Fly anglers are throwing scuds or sow bugs, also try glo bugs, or San Juan worms. Look for BWO hatches on in late mornings, and early evenings, reports of some awesome midge hatches too. Spin anglers are throwing floating Rapalas, or Yozuri pin minnows, also panther martin, or mepps spinners.

Willard Bay

Yes folks it is alive ... Shore anglers are having good success fishing for wipers on the west side of the lake. Anglers are using small white or chartreuse marabou jigs, or tube jigs under a bobber. Reports of fly fishing anglers doing well or bead-headed woolly buggers, or streamers. There have been a few reports of anglers launching smaller boats from the north marina. The south marina is closed. Success is spotty, so don't be discouraged if you have a bad trip, stick with it and you will have your day.
