Utah health official laments swelling rate of vaccine skepticism, illness outbreaks
Vaccine hesitancy is up across the country. So is pertussis, also known as whooping cough. Utah isn’t exempt from these sobering facts, said Rich Lakin, immunization director at the Utah Department of Health and Human Services. In fact, the state has already counted 125 confirmed and probable cases of whooping cough, and that doesn’t yet include figures from September. “We’ve seen several outbreaks since August and the numbers will probably be higher than what we’ve reported so far,” Lakin said.
