A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY!: Nathan Calvin Wheeler (90) : Melba Fielding Wheeler (85)
Nathan C. Wheeler and his sweetheart of over 65 years, Melba Fielding Wheeler, will be celebrating milestone birthdays.
Nathan, our beloved dad and grandpa will turn 90 and Melba, our treasured mother and grandmother turned 85.
Nathan C. Wheeler was born May 7, 1926 to Nathan Andrew Wheeler and Sarah Allen Wheeler, in Stone, Idaho. At age 13 his family moved to Perry, Utah, where he has since resided. After graduation from Box Elder High School, Nathan served in the United States Army for two years, and upon return, graduated from Weber College. He then worked at Hill Air Force Base for 25 years, while also running Wheeler Reality, raising his family and taking on many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Melba Fielding was born April 19, 1931 to Elmer J. Fielding and Silverine Waite Fielding, in Syracuse, Utah. Melba is a graduate of Davis High School. She met Nathan while skipping school to go see one of his friends at Weber College. While she was there she noticed Nathan’s shiny Black Ford Convertible, and bonus he was handsome as well.
They were married on November 10, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple, and moved to Perry, where they have lived for 67 years. She helped Nathan in running the real estate and insurance business while also raising four children: Janice Hadley (Robert), Julie Oman (Ralph), Douglas Wheeler (Pauli) and Devon Nathan Wheeler (deceased). Along with being a wonderful mother and grandmother, she is a great cook, excellent seamstress and has also fulfilled many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Together Melba and Nathan have enjoyed many adventures. They treasured their time serving as full-time missionaries in the Kenya Nairobi Mission and the California Ventura Mission. They also served as summertime missionaries in Nauvoo, Illinois. They share a love of travel and are world globetrotters with their most recent trip a cruise on the Rhine River with their children.
And, no one can outlast grandma and grandpa in a game of Hand & Foot. They can always stay up the latest and still manage to win every hand.
Their children, 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren would like to express our love and appreciation for the lives and example they have shared with us all.
