Gary Hiromu Shioji

Gary Hiromu Shioji passed away in the Uinta mountains from natural causes on September 11, 2021 at the age of 67. He was born November 29, 1953 to Hiroshi and Fumiko Jane Shioji in Ogden, Utah.

Gary graduated from Clearfield High School and attended Weber State University. His career was spent working as a journeyman diesel mechanic. His early years were at Transcon Lines. The majority of his career was with Cummins Rocky Mountain. He then worked for Smith Power Products and retired in January 2020. He developed many great friendships along his hardworking years.

Gary was known for his love of the outdoors. Every weekend was filled with snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, or boating. His skillful snowmobile riding and knowledge of the mountains led him to volunteer for the Weber County Search and Rescue. Gary was always the first to lend a hand. His many years of mechanics and welding made him capable to fix anything and everything.

Gary enjoyed every minute of his well-deserved retirement. He loved gardening and sharing his harvest. His giant pumpkins were the grandkids’ favorite. He started beekeeping to add to his many skills. Gary stayed active biking so he could enjoy all of his sweets and treats.

He was a proud grandpa to Jenna and Lexi Olsen. He loved supporting them in all of their sports and activities. He was especially fond of seeing Jenna wakeboard and Lexi play softball.

Survived by his mother Fumiko Jane Shioji; daughter Kari (Ryan) Olsen; grandchildren Jenna and Lexi Olsen; brother Carl Shioji and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Hiroshi Shioji.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home located at 4335 W. 4100 S. West Valley City. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in memory of Gary Shioji.
