Don Allen Stevens
1937 — 2022
Don Allen Stevens, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed from this life to the next to perform missionary work and help spread the Gospel. He died Feb 20, 2022 from pancreatic cancer at home with his wife of 64 years by his side. He was born July 1, 1937 in Mt. View, Wyoming in a cabin his mother built. He moved to Evanston Wyoming when he was 5 years old and graduated from Evanston High School in 1955. In high school he was center on the basketball team and developed a lifelong love for the game. The last thing he watched on television was his beloved Utah Jazz.
He married Barbara Ann Black in the Salt Lake Temple on April 18, 1958. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop’s counselor, Ward Clerk, High Priest Group Leader, YM President and in many other callings. Don and Barbara served in the Ogden Inner City and Pennsylvania Harrisburg Missions where their lives were blessed by the people and missionaries they served and loved so dear.
He worked for the Union Pacific RR, Marquardt Corp., and retired from a 40-year career at Thiokol/Morton/ATK where he was Supervisor of the Machine Shop and in his words “had the best job ever”.
He had been a Scouter for more than 50 years. He served as Cubmaster, Scout Master, District Chairman of the Weber View District, Committeeman and Merit Badge Counselor. He loved his Scouts and went on many scout camps with them where he relished teaching them all things scouting; especially the proper way to use a pocketknife. Don was never without a pocketknife. Over the years, he influenced and helped hundreds of boys advance in scouting and receive their Eagle Scout award. He received the Award of Merit and Silver Beaver, Scouting Council’s highest award, in 1987.
Don loved to read, hunt, fish and story tell. He loved the sage brush, streams and mountains of his youth and passed on that love to his children and grandchildren. He would say many times that he grew up and lived the greatest life, at the greatest time, that anyone could ever live.
He is survived by his wife Barbara of No. Ogden, daughter Cristine (Ed) Strank of Farr West, sons Evan (Rita) of Hooper, Spencer (Anissa) of Farr West and Ryan of Willard/Ontario Canada, and sister LeAnn Coshman of Pleasant View. Don and Barbara have been blessed with sixteen grandchildren (Steven, Stephanie, Skyler, Brooke, Landon, Dakota, Jayden, Austin, Carson, Alicia, Shelby, Tori, Dallin, Marissa, Paige, Alex) and six great grandchildren (Jaxson, Brylie, Mckenzie, Kaia, Miles, Grayson). He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sadie Jackman Stevens, sisters Betty Dalton and Faye Forman, brothers Bobby and Lewis (infants), and his beloved grandson Landon Stevens.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25, 2022, at 11:00 am at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and prior to the service on Friday at 9:40 - 10:40. Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery.
