Maria Teresa Garcia

Jan 21, 2022

Our beautiful mother, grandmother, advisor and friend, Maria Teresa Garcia has left our world on Sunday, January 16, 2022 to go on to a more peaceful place to reunite with her mom, dad, and the love of her life Casimiro Garcia.

Maria Teresa was born in Mexico, March 15, 1931 to Maclovia Ruiz and Jose Trujillo in a small town called Aquas Calientes. Like many families of that generation, her family was no stranger to poverty and hard times.

She kept her faith and found the strength to continue to get an education and a bachelor’s degree in in teaching. She taught school in Tijuana, Mexico for 10 years with children ranging from 3rd to 8th grade in the same classroom.

In the early 1960’s Maria came to visit her Uncle in California, that is where she met the love of her life, Casimiro Garcia.

Maria and Casimiro were married December 9, 1962 and had six children, Roberto (Susan), Ruben (Wendy), Julian (Mandy), Mario, Edna (Tim) and Andrew (Robyn)., with 20 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Maria Teresa was loved by all of her family immensely.

Maria Teresa loved to sing and be happy. She played the organ in church and sang in the choir. She prayed to rosary almost every day, she loved to feed the birds, spend time outside if it wasn’t too cold and watch cowboy movies. Oil painting was a source a peace and expression of life for her, she loved to go shopping with Edna and try her luck at the slot machines in Wendover.

Always a source of inspiration, Maria was wise, with quick wit and a complete understanding of people. Maria never gave up. Always with a positive attitude, she kept the faith, believing that tomorrow will always be a better day that today.

Please help us celebrate Maria Teresa’s life by acknowledging her belief that all people all created equally under God. That we treat the least among us with dignity and respect and that God loves us all equally and unconditionally without prejudice and with peace.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Church Street, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family, Thursday January 27, 2022 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. A vigil with Rosary will be held 7:30 p.m.
