Leah Rands

Leah Elmer Rands, 84, passed away June 2, 2022, in Plain City, UT. She was born April 11, 1938, to Raymond Elmer and Zelda Prescott in Hayden, UT.

Leah graduated from Ben Lomond High School and attended Weber State University. She married Leslie Dale Rands on February 5, 1959, in the Logan Temple, they were married 39 years. Leah was a long-time member of the Plain City 7th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as Primary Teacher, Scout Leader, Librarian, Relief Society Presidency and in the Special Needs Mutual. During her working years, she and Dale owned/operated Rands Crafts and Upholstery Shop. Leah also worked for the IRS for 20 years. Her most loved job was being a mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed gardening, raising birds (Cockatiels and African Parrots), traveling, camping, fishing, cooking, and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her family, movie nights, popcorn, and ice cream. Grandma always said, “ice cream filled in all the cracks”, we had to stop for ice cream on every trip. Leah also loved puzzles and playing chicken feet with Betty and Ernie. She and her sisters were members of the Blue Handed crocheting group. She loved to crochet afghans and she was great at it! She was a talented magnetic jewelry maker. She really enjoyed Sunday dinners at Gary’s house with good friends. She was patient, kind, and slow to anger.

She is survived by her children Delores (Craig) Joosten, Gary (Molly) Rands, Leslie Rands, Carla Rands, LaRae Filanda, and Heidi Rands, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, Blaine Elmer (brother), Keitha and Grant Geilman (sister), and Ernie and Cyldene Butters (brother-in-law). She is preceded in death by her husband Leslie Dale Rands, her parents Raymond and Zelda Elmer, Betty Butters (sister) and Elaine and Jay Kendell (sister & brother-in-law), Reanon Elmer (sister-in-law), Clara Rands (mother-in-law), and Joseph Leslie Rands (father-in-law).

The family would like to especially thank Heidi for her love and care of mom.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 11, 2022, 11:30 a.m., with a viewing prior to services Saturday 10:00 ­- 11:00 a.m. at the Plain City 7th Ward, 2952 N. 4200 W., Plain City, UT. With a viewing Friday, June 10, 2022, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT. Interment will be in Plain City Cemetery, 4373 W. 1975 N. Plain City, UT.
