Shirley Mae Vaughn Skeen

Nov 29, 2022

Shirley Mae Vaughn Skeen, loving wife, mother, Gram, Mam, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022 at 94 years old. Mom was born in Ogden, Utah, to William Lorenzo “Ren” and Florence “Fawn” Hogge Vaughn and was the third of four children.

Shirley was raised and lived nearly her entire life in her West Weber family home. She graduated from Weber High School, class of 1946. In her early teens Shirley met the love of her life, Ronald “Rip” Blaine Skeen. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1948.

Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many leadership positions. She attended the temple regularly along with weekly meetings. She loved to study and learn more about the gospel. Mom was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Society.

Shirley had a gift for taking the focus off herself and showing a genuine interest in others. She had a special knack for asking thoughtful questions. She emulated the Savior and set the example for many to help them become better than they thought they could be. Shirley sought quiet ways to give service. She guided her children and grandchildren through love and example. Mom was always wise beyond her years. She had powerful faith and honored her Heavenly Father and her Savior to the very end.

Shirley believed that even when life was at its most challenging, turning her heart to her Savior would bring her peace. Her goal in life was to laugh, love, and to be moved by emotion each day.

Shirley is survived by her four children, Ronda (Terry) Hancock, Michael (Doloy) Skeen, Mark (Holly) Skeen, and Fawna (Keith) Knight, daughter-in-law Lisa Rose Skeen, sisters-in-law Jean Vaughn and Sherille Skeen as well as 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, a huge extended family and dear friends. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her best friend and husband Ronald “Rip” Skeen, her siblings, her grandson Trent Terry Hancock, and great-grandson Hudson Justin Skeen.

Special thanks to Broderick, Breanna and the Seasons Assisted Living staff along with Amy and Jen at AFI Hospice. Also, Jodi and Dr. Jeffery Call for a lifetime of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, on Thursday December 1, 2022 at the West Weber 3rd Ward Chapel, 4100 W. 900 S. Friends and family may attend a viewing at the church prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
