Oct 4, 2022

January 24, 1934 — October 1, 2022

LaRae Porter McEntire, 88, of West Point, Utah, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 1, 2022. Daddy sent us a beautiful sunset as he greeted momma to take her home.

LaRae was born on January 24, 1934, in the Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah to James Earl Porter and Moneta Hardy Porter. She was the youngest of 4 children and grew up in Ogden and Salt Lake City, graduating from West High School.

She was sealed to Don McEntire on November 26, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by President David O McKay, who was a family friend. LaRae and Don lived in Germany for 18 months as he served in the military. She and her family also lived in Ogden, Roy, Clearfield, and West Point.

Mom was an amazingly talented person. She worked as a secretary for several companies and could type 105 words per minute. She was an exceptional seamstress and sewed many prom dresses for her daughters. Several people were recipients of her gifts that were knitted, crocheted or embroidered. She was a gifted pianist and organist and accompanied numerous groups and soloists. She taught piano lessons to hundreds of students up until the age of 87 and she loved them with all her heart. LaRae dedicated 35 years of her life as a Tupperware manager where she earned many special awards such as trips, furniture and electronics. She enjoyed her time in Tupperware and made many friends.

Our sweet Mom had a deep and abiding faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served diligently in several callings, in many organizations. She served two missions with her husband in the Netherlands, which brought her so much happiness and joy. She served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for over 14 years.

As a mom and a grandma, her devotion was unprecedented. She taught her children to have faith and trust in the Lord. She never forgot a birthday or important occasion and made sure each person received recognition on their special day. She was a true friend to all who knew her.

LaRae is survived by her children, James Guy, Roy; Gwen, West Haven; Dodie Webb (Blake), St. George; Kellie Cooke (Kerry), Hooper; Patti Rae, Syracuse. She had 19 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren who called her Nana. LaRae was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 3 siblings and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the West Point 13th Ward Chapel, 3290 W. 800 N., West Point.
