Mike Kent Lund

1952 – 2023

Mike Kent Lund is at peace at last, having succumbed to COPD and heart failure on June 7, 2023. His final days were filled with laughter, tears, beers, inappropriate jokes and music. He wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Mike was surrounded and is survived by his girls, Cheyenne Herlandstein (Kim Stein), and Jamie Lund (Heather Archuleta). He is also survived by grandkids Forest and Emelia Church.

Mike was born on Jan. 26, 1952, to Thomas George Lund II and Kaye Foster Lund, the youngest and smallest of three boys. He spent his childhood trying to keep up with brothers Tom and Steve in the foothills of Bountiful, UT, as well as the area around Hebgen Lake in MT. Mike recounted many memories of huckleberry picking, boating, shooting with his gunsmith father, playing cards, and raising hell fist-fighting to prove that size is of little concern when you’re tough. He was preceded in death by both of his brothers.

Mike began working for Francesco’s making pizza at age 15 and had his first car paid for before he could drive. He worked for Kennecott Corp from 1974 – 2009, taking on leadership roles in the union, including as shop steward, fighting for jobs and safety. He became a licensed contractor in 1980, and enjoyed building houses with his brother Tom, who was also a contractor. They built the house in which he and ex-wife Cindy raised their family in West Bountiful in 1977, where he lived until moving to Avamere at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living in South Ogden in 2021. He earned his aircraft mechanic license in 1985. In his younger years he loved hang gliding, motorcycle riding, camping, and drinking. In more recent years, he’s enjoyed clock making and woodworking.

His daughters carry strong attributes from their Dad. Cheyenne followed her passions to a career in science and education, and has become a lifelong environmentalist, working to protect nature. She also enjoys songwriting, and recounts sweet memories of her dad teaching her to listen to the story within a song. Jamie shares her dad’s extreme thirst for adrenaline and adventure and has truly embraced his ‘take no s—‘ attitude regardless of size or varying opinions. Jamie also turned their dad’s love of construction and building into a career in construction management. Both of them have a deep connection to music and the outdoors.

Mike’s family offer their humble gratitude and sincere appreciation for angels masquerading as ordinary people, doing extraordinary works: To the loving staff at Avamere: Johnny, Dom, Teisha, Lily, Heatherly, Janet, Amy, and to Avamere’s resident community, you all treated our dad with such grace and dignity, as if he were your own family. Great thanks to Alisha Ritchins of AMG Medical Group for impeccable, compassionate care. And a thousand thanks to Denise Stephens of Inspiration Hospice for her sensitive advocacy, and above-and-beyond guidance through Mike’s end of life process.
