Marilyn Bott Brown

Mar 27, 2023

1936 — 2023

Marilyn Bott Brown, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87 in the early morning hours of March 26, 2023.

She was born February 15, 1936, in Ogden, Utah to Albert Leland Bott and Ruth Ellison Skeen. She graduated from Ogden High School before completing an associate degree from Weber State College in 1956, and a bachelor’s in Elementary Education from the University of Utah in 1958. She taught kindergarten at Hawthorne Elementary in Salt Lake City, Utah.

On June 6th, 1958, she married Fred Clair Brown in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. They were blessed with four beautiful daughters, Susanne, Lori, Colleen, and Pam. Marilyn and Fred enjoyed spending time with 18 grandkids and 37 great-grandkids. They spent many summers together as a family camping at Yellowstone National Park, Bear Lake, and Wasatch State Park.

She loved to garden and each year at the first sign of spring, you would find Marilyn and Fred planting and preparing their garden to be enjoyed by the whole family throughout the year. When she wasn’t gardening, Marilyn could be found at the computer where she used her talent for finding new branches of her family tree. Her dedication to family history blessed many as well as her children and many of her grandchildren as they took the names she had found through the temple.

Education was important to Marilyn and Fred. They were very supportive of their grandkid’s schooling and missions and stood behind them every step of the way with their love and generosity.

Marilyn strived to live the gospel of Jesus Christ in every aspect of her life. She was a dedicated visiting teacher and friend to many in her ward. While she served in many different callings in the church, her greatest emphasis and talents were in doing family history.

She is survived by her sister, Annette Richards; daughters, Susanne (Bob) Stowers, Lori (Clayton) Berrett, Colleen (Bryce) Tolman, and Pam (Jay) Tolman. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Jean (Karl) Hodson; brother-in-law, Richard Richards, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Emmett and Annette Parker.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 29 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel at 1150 E. 2600 N., No. Ogden, Utah. A private family service will be held on Thursday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary in Ogden with interment in the Ben Lomond Cemetery.

We would like to thank her friends at Our House of Ogden Assisted Living and especially Sarah and those friends and caretakers at the Lodge at North Ogden who served Marilyn and were so kind and compassionate during her final days.

In Lieu of flowers, please donate to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints missionary fund.
