Claudia Rae White
January 12, 1948 to October 3, 2024
Claudia passed peacefully from this life the evening of October 3rd after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Claudia was born to Raymond and Emily Ware January 12, 1948 in San Francisco, CA. The family later moved to Los Angeles (Watts), CA when she was a toddler. Claudia was involved in many things. She was the playground Tetherball champ throughout her childhood. Claudia was the female athlete of the year at David Starr Jordan High School for all three years. She played multiple sports, gaining a scholarship to play basketball at Cal State LA.
On August 18, 1966 Claudia married Emmett D White Sr at Grant AME Church in Los Angeles, CA. They relocated to Ogden, UT for educational purposes. She graduated from Weber State College in Physical Education. They had two children Cai White and Emmett D White II. To many others she was “Mama White.”
Claudia was very active around the Ogden Community. She is probably most remembered for playing softball and being on the Ogden Police Dept. Reserve especially dancing at the Ogden Street festival. Claudia participated in community activism while working at the Marshall White Center, Hill Air Force Base and Ogden City School District. In recent years she loved participating on the community board for Ogden City Police Dept. wanting to make sure the community was being heard.
Claudia had been a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church the duration of her life. She had been a long-standing member at Embry Chapel A,M.E.C in Ogden, where she enjoyed working in the food pantry, singing in the choir, playing the piano and holding different positions within the church.
Claudia is survived by her husband of 56 years Emmett Sr, daughter Cai White, son Emmett II, grandchildren Elijah White-Scott, Kya Shae McFarland, Christopher Rowan, and Kyrese Rowan White. Fur pups Oba, Agitha (Aggie) and Onyx will greatly miss their Gigi. She is also survived by her sisters Emily Williams and Sylvia Swartz (Steve). A vast number of extended family, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October, 19, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Second Baptist Church, 227 27th Street. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park. Service will be live streamed and can be watched by clicking on the following link https://MyersMortuary.livecontrol.tv/2777295a
