WASHINGTON TERRACE - Christine McKay Darley "Grandma Chris" passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on September 8, 2018, after a five year battle with cancer.

Mom was born July 16, 1949, to Lamar McKay and LaMae Bateman Garr in Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1967, where she met her high school sweetheart, Denny.

On August 16, 1968, she married Dennis Darley at Fort Greely, Alaska. She sold her car for a plane ticket to join him in Alaska, as he was stationed there for the Army from 1968 to 1970.

Mom worked for the IRS, DATC, and Mountain High School as head secretary. She loved the kids there and she made many lifelong friendships. Mom and Judy became instant friends, then sisters. Judy has a special place in our Mom's heart.

Mom loved to read, quilt, shop-hop, out fish her husband, collect teddy bears, follow the San Antonio Spurs (but we loved her anyway), she enjoyed Twilight and Fiddler on the roof, Phantom of the Opera, but her most favorite thing was spending time with her family and friends. Mom never missed a sporting event for her kids or her grandkids. EVER! Her kids and grandkids were her life. Mom had a way of making you feel extra special on your birthday. She loved bar b q's in her beautiful backyard and spent a lot of time at their family cabin (Montego Bay) at Bear Lake where many memories were made.

Mom had a great talent for all crafts. She especially loved quilting. She has left us many quilts that we will cherish forever.

In August of 2018, we as a family went back to Fort Greely for our parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary. We were able to get into the chapel they were married in and go down memory lane with them. Mom's health was failing, and this trip took a lot out of her, but she didn't miss a beat. The smile on her face was worth a million bucks. We have never met a stronger person, her body gave out, but her will to live never did.

Chris is survived by her husband, Dennis Darley; her mother, LaMae Bateman Garr; sons, Scott and Brian Darley, Ogden, UT; daughter, Erin (Curtis) Randall, Ogden, UT; and brothers, Rick (Jodi) McKay, Huntington Beach, CA; and Mitch Vernieu, Riverdale, UT. She has 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her father, Lamar McKay; and her grandparents, Delbert and Grace Bateman, and John and Jeanette McKay.

We as a family would like to thank Dr. Vincent Hansen's office and IHC Hospice for their tender care of our Mom. Also, to Susan Wirick for her thoughtfulness and for the friendship she shared with our Mom.

Friends may visit with family on Thursday, September 13, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. A private family graveside will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery.
