Dix W Cloward passed away due to natural causes on November 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home in South Ogden, Utah. He was 86 years old. Dix was born March 3, 1932, in Monroe, Utah to Elwin and Lorean Cloward.
He was the youngest of five children-Blake, Wayne, McRay, Colleen and Dix. He grew up in Monroe where he enjoyed many adventures and made life-long friends.
He graduated from South Sevier High School where he excelled in academics, student government, basketball and baseball.
He went on to obtain his bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees from Utah State University. He was sealed to his sweetheart, Ruth Schick, in the Logan Temple on September 18, 1953.
Ruth preceded him in death on January 16, 2015. He proudly served his country as an Air Force pilot. He flew several planes, including the B-36. Dix left the Air Force to pursue a career in education.
He taught Economics for five years at Boise Junior College. He then moved his family to Ogden where he was an Economics professor at Weber State University, retiring after 35 years.
He developed the Logistics program for Weber State and traveled the country and the world establishing his program. He was a fellow in the Society of Logistics Engineers.
Dix loved being with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping. He had a fun sense of humor and many friends.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many positions over the years including home teacher, Sunday School President, Executive Secretary, and High Councilor.
His last calling was probably his favorite when he served on the Pastoral Committee at McKay-Dee Hospital.
Dix is survived by his five children: Dixi (Jeff) Rivas, Ron (Julie) Cloward, Cheryl Parkinson, Kim (John) Morris, and Rick (Laurel) Cloward, 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and his sister Colleen (Sharon) Christensen.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the South Ogden 8th Ward, 720 Nancy Dr.
There will be a viewing at the same ward building on Sunday, December 9, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again Monday before the funeral from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
