Linda Darlene Monson

August 2, 1933 ~ June 27, 2018

On Tuesday, June 27, 2018, our beloved mother and grandmother Linda Darlene Monson, returned to our Heavenly Father's open arms. Surrounded by her children and grandchildren she passed from this mortal life to rejoin her husband, Farrell Ray Monson; and son, Bryce Kenneth Monson who had preceded her in death.

Darlene was born in Clifton, Idaho, on August 2, 1933, to Linda Howell Hooker and Samual Kenneth Kirkbride. She was the oldest of six children. Her parents, and brothers, Frank and Dale preceded her in death.

She attended Idaho Falls High and Brigham Young University where she met her sweetheart and eternal companion, Farrell Ray Monson. Mom waited for dad for three years while he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Africa. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they had six children: LeAnn (Cory) Butler, Eric (Tanna) Monson, Lesa (Mike) McKie, Kyle (Natalie) Monson, Bryce Monson, and Jennifer (Paul) Jorde.

Our parent's legacy is one of service. Together they served four full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints one in Cincinnati, Ohio; two in their beloved South Africa; and one in Salt Lake City in the LDS Church Office Missionary Department.

Darlene served in many positions in the LDS Church; Relief Society President, Visiting Teacher, Temple Ordinance worker, the Young Women organization, Activities Day Coordinator, and Chorister. She served in many PTAs over the years and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her greatest accomplishment was raising five children, teaching them the principles of the gospel and to love unconditionally.

Our mother enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing the piano, scrapbooking, genealogy, reading, collecting salt and pepper shakers and playing games with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sisters and one brother: Joann (Romney) Painter, Arvilla Finlayson, Kenneth (Loretta) Kirkbride. Five children, 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to the Heart Institute at McKay Dee Hospital and the amazing nurses and respiratory therapist in the ICU at McKay Dee Hospital.

A viewing service will be held Monday, July 2, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Roy Utah Central Stake Center, 4900 South 2000 West, Roy, Utah. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at the Stake Center at 11 a.m. with a viewing prior to the services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
