Terence (Terry) Clifford Spratlen


August 5, 1944 ~ September 9, 2017

LAYTON - Terence Clifford Spratlen, 73, passed away September 9, 2017, at the George E. Whalen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah, surrounded by his family.

He was born August 5, 1944, in Norton, Kansas, the son of Clifford A. and Bethel L. Nicholas Spratlen.

He was raised in McCook, Nebraska, and he attended McCook Elementary, and graduated from McCook High School in 1962. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, in January 1967, with a BS in International Relations and was commissioned into the United States Air Force upon graduation. In September 1974, while stationed at Hickham A.F.B., Hawaii, he received an MBA from Pepperdine University. Throughout his military career he graduated from Squadron Officers School, Air Command and Staff, Armed Forces Staff College, and Air War College.

While stationed at Keesler A.F.B., he met Martha (Marte) Stumpf, and they were married on May 24, 1969. They have three children: John, Robyn, and Andrew. Terence retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel.

Surviving are his wife, Martha; sons, John, Andrew; and daughter, Robyn Spratlen; six grandchildren: Ashley, Owen, Jack, Noah, Khloe, and Mitchell; brother, Nicholas (Emily); and nephew, Daniel (Jamie); niece, Courtney (John) and their children. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; and by a dear friend and brother-in-law, Robert Stumpf.

Private services were held.

Services entrusted to Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
