Velma Mae Reeder

May 6, 1935 ~ January 12, 2019

Velma Mae Reeder, age 83, of Harrisville and Eden, Utah, died peacefully on January 12, 2019, from complications from a fall on November 9, 2018.

She was born to George Fredrick Hamson and Eva Mae Hamson on May 6, 1935, at home in North Ogden, Utah.

Velma loved to do crafts and she could look at something and make it without instructions. She was the relief society homemaking leader for many years in her Fruit Heights ward where she lived most of her adult life. She was active in her Fruit Heights ward and made many friends there.

When she was a teenager, she was part of the Ogden Rodeo Days Royalty. Even though she lived on a farm, she did not grow up riding horses; when the Royalty was presented, and the horses circled the fence line, she commented that was the scariest thing she ever did.

She married Richard (Dick) Thomas Reeder on October 16, 1965, in Las Vegas, NV. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on January 25, 1980, when her son, Steven W. Thompson and Christine Shaw were married. They were sealed to their daughter Angela Reeder that same day.

Velma and Dick loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with the Intermountain Travel Club consisting of 25 couples. Velma and Dick traveled all over the United States, Hawaii and Alaska. They ventured to Canada, Japan, Panama and Mexico.

She worked several jobs she was proud of. She loved being a manager at Green and Sons, now called Outsource Collections and worked there for 25 plus years.

A special thanks to Ogden Regional Hospital doctors and nurses who saved her life after the fall, also to Northern Utah Rehab, Stonehenge, and South Ogden Post-Acute. Special thanks to the nurses for the wonderful care, love, compassion and respect showed to our mother. We can't thank you enough.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years. She is survived by her half brother Gale (Rona) Bowcutt, half-brother, Larry (Emelie) Bowcutt, sister-in-law, Shirley (Reeder) Skeen, son, Steven W. (Chris) Thompson, daughter, Angela Reeder (Brian) Rackham; grandchildren: Tyler S. (Jessica) Thompson, Chad R. Thompson and Heather Cunningham, Thomas LeRoy Rackham, MaKayla Mae Rackham, and great-grandchildren, Keira E. Thompson, Owen D. Thompson, Anjeli Buehler and Eden Rose Thompson. She was preceded in death by her brother Merlin G. Hamson.
