Pat Meehan of Layton was honored by her family at a party Saturday celebrating her 80th birthday. On Aug. 13, 1931, Patricia Lorraine Eversole was born to Elzie Earl and Emma Louisa McCord Eversole in Dixon, Wyo. She is the youngest of eight (five brothers and two sisters), and was raised in Wyoming. She moved to Utah, where she met the love of her life Bill Meehan. They were married July 17, 1951, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Layton. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. They traveled (courtesy of the U.S. Marine Corps) with their six children, living in North Carolina, Arizona, California and Connecticut. Finally settling in Utah, they continue to watch their family grow. She says she has appreciated the value of hard work, dedication and loyalty, passing these attributes to her family. Her children and spouses are Kathie Covington, Bill and Cheryl Meehan, Debbie Bemel, Jan and Paul Donelan, Joe and Shelley Meehan, and Mike and Becky Meehan. She has 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren with another two on the way. She worked outside of the home in various forms, including the Davis County School District, Hill Air Force Base Food Service, and as a homemaker/health aide. She says her most valued and cherished contribution was her support of her husband’s career in the Corps and her devotion to her children. She is currently writing her life story. She is a writer, published poet, and a member of the Wasatch Writers League and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
