OGDEN — Part of Ogden’s Historic 25th Street was closed Monday as a film crew works on a new TV series being shot around the state.

The street was closed between Lincoln Avenue and Wall Avenue for the filming of a TV series called “Yellowstone,” which will run next summer on Paramount Network, officials said. The new Paramount Network channel will replace Spike in January.

The 10-episode series stars two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner and is directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, who is known for “Hell or High Water” and “Sicario.” “Yellowstone” is executive produced by The Weinstein Company with John and Art Linson, known for “Sons of Anarchy” and “Fight Club,” according to comingsoon.net.

The series is about a Montana ranching family who is fighting people encroaching on their land, according to a Paramount Studios website.

“We’re excited to have them here,” said Derek Mellus, Utah Film Commission production manager.

“We’ve had a lot of production as of late that has noticed how beautiful Utah can be — what a great of a background Utah can be. ‘Yellowstone’ is no exception.”

According to statistics released by the Utah Film Commision, 31 productions were approved for filming in Utah for the fiscal year 2017 that ended in July. These productions included Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack,” HBO’s “Westworld” and Taylor Sheridan’s “Wind River.”

The 31 productions resulted in an estimated $66 million spent in Utah for filming in the last fiscal year, according to the statistics. This amount is up from $43 million in the fiscal year 2016.

The filming Monday was just one of several filming projects in Ogden in the last month.

Mellus said his job is to attract film business to Utah to film and he has enjoyed increasing success lately.

“Yellowstone” currently is scheduled to film in Utah until the end of December, Mellus said.

The production will move around the state, filming in a different location every day, he said.
