The annual Climb Out of the Darkness to heighten awareness of postpartum depression will take place Saturday, June 20.

Walkers will gather at 9 a.m. at Beus Pond, 4240 Country Hills Drive, Ogden.

“We wanted it to be a very family-friendly place so moms could bring their strollers and bring their kids,” says co-organizer Avery Furlong of Ogden.

There is no set distance for the walk; the idea is simply “to represent the climb out of the darkness of postpartum depression,” says Furlong, who experienced the condition after the birth of her first child.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Postpartum Progress, an international nonprofit organization that provides support and information to women about postpartum depression and other maternal mental health issues.

Admission for the climb is free but anyone who donates or raises $100 will receive a T-shirt. Walkers may sign up in advance at https://www.crowdrise.com/aliciaglascock-cotd2015/fundraiser/aliciaglascock or register on the day of the walk..

A “Spirit Night” to bring awareness to postpartum depression is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Chick-fil-A, 4067 Riverdale Road, Riverdale. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of all purchases made during those hours to Postpartum Progress.

For more information, email Furlong at summergone22@live.com or co-organizer Alicia Glascock of Ogden at aliciaglascock@hotmail.com.
