Peery's Egyptian Theater was graced with a unique and joyful take on the Nutcracker Wednesday night with the Performing Artists Lengthening Strides (PALS) and Imagine Ballet Theatre presentation of the "Jazzy Nutcracker."
PALS — an organization that gives kids and adults with special needs and their peers a way to have fun, grow as individuals, and build transformative friendships — joined forces with the Imagine Ballet Theatre for their first live performance together.
The collective, which began rehearsing for the show in September, performed a total of nine numbers backed by music from Duke Ellington's interpretation of Tchaikovsky's score. Among the act's was "The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy," titled "Sugar Rum Fairy," and "Dance of the Floreadores."
The multiple dances walked the audience through a variety of cultures and places such as Arabia, Italy, China and Russia.
Audiences reacted with a standing ovation following the performance.
