MORGAN — A school bus rolled off snow-slickened State Route 66 in Morgan County on Thursday morning, but the driver and the lone student on board were not injured.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Irvine said the driver was cited with going too fast for existing conditions.

“The roads were snowy and slick and she was just driving too fast, began sliding and was unable to control the bus,” Irvine said.

The westbound bus slid about 50 feet off the road and rolled onto the driver’s side.

“It’s remarkable no one was injured in the crash,” Irvine said.

The bus was at the start of its run picking up Morgan High School students when the crash occurred, Morgan County School District spokesperson Gwen Romero said.

“It was just a fluke thing, going down the road and hitting a curve with a little bit of slush,” Romero said. “It’s just an anomaly. The safety of our students is our top priority.”

The district said it would work with the UHP on the crash investigation.

Romero said district officials were at the crash site investigating. She said the driver would remain on duty pending the outcome.
