Super Grocery at 675 N. Monroe Blvd. is pictured Monday, March 8, 2021. Satnam Singh, the store owner and operator, was shot and killed on Feb. 28, 2021, and a supporter seeks to give 675 North an honorary designation, Satnam Singh Drive.

OGDEN — An honorary designation petition is set go before the Ogden City Planning Commission at 5 p.m. Nov. 3 on the third floor of the Ogden Municipal Building.

Notices will be sent to all who live on 675 North about the meeting to discuss the proposal made by Ogden resident Jesse Redden to have an honorary designation of Satnam Singh Drive attached to the street, according to Greg Montgomery, planning manager with the Ogden City Landmarks Commission.

Singh, owner of the former Super Grocery in northern Ogden, was shot and killed inside his store on Feb. 28.

“This way, he can stay on that street forever. His legend can stay on that street forever,” Redden said in March after submitting his porposal.

Redden received widespread community support from the neighborhood where the store is located at 675 N. Monroe Blvd. Redden has been waiting more than 200 days for an answer on his petition due to guidelines for honorary street names being expanded upon by the Ogden City Council.

Key elements of the proposed honorary street name ordinance include significant policy decisions, as stated in the draft, allowing a petition by an Ogden City resident, providing standards for Diversity Commission review and involvement, and an outline of the costs and responsibility for installment.
