Weber County hosting fair on dealing with life changes, disasters, accidents
OGDEN — Weber County is hosting an event on Friday and Saturday meant to give the public a boost in preparing for and dealing with big life changes, accidents and disasters.
The Weber County Self-Reliance and Safety Fair is set for Friday and Saturday and will be held at the Golden Spike Events Center at 1000 N. 1200 West in Ogden.
It’s free and open to the public with talks, presentations and informational booths scheduled for each day on a broad range of topics. It goes from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. or so each day and food trucks and vendors will also be on the fair grounds.
“We are working to ensure that the residents we serve are empowered in their own safety, self-reliance, and resiliency,” reads a letter to the public from Weber County commissioners on the event. “Local, state and federal government partners have been invited to represent each of their program’s contributions to self-reliance and safety.”
The Weber County Sheriff’s Office, county commissioners and the Weber County Homeland Security and Emergency Management office, among others, have had a hand in the event, the first of its type here.
Among the focuses of the wide-ranging talks are dealing with life changes and adversity, cooking in a disaster, disaster preparedness for youth, sextortion, suicide prevention, personal finances, gardening, water-wise landscaping, food preservation, mental well-being and more.
“You can connect with representatives from your individual city to discuss plans to educate, empower and protect your loved ones. In addition, local community partners and vendors have been asked to present products and services that facilitate preparation, safety and self-reliance,” reads the commissioners’ statement.
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive during the event.
