ROY — A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after a truck-bicycle collision Wednesday evening.

A pickup truck was westbound on 4400 South at about 6 p.m. and turned left onto 2675 West, striking the boy, who was riding a bicycle, Roy Police Officer Stuart Hackworth said Thursday. The truck ran over the boy with both front and rear tires, he said.

The boy suffered internal injuries and was taken to an Ogden hospital, then moved by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Hackworth said the driver saw one child on the far side of the intersection as he was turning, but did not see the boy, Hackworth said.

“It does not appear that speed was a factor,” Hackworth said. The crash remains under investigation.
