OGDEN — Ogden residents will soon be able to enjoy a beer at the movies.
Brewvies Cinema Pub announced Monday on its Facebook page that it will open a second location in Ogden soon. The Salt Lake City pub and theater, which opened in 1997, serves customers of age 21 and over only and is known for serving beer from local craft breweries.
The Ogden Brewvies location will open at 2293 Grant Ave. in downtown Ogden in “a matter of weeks,” the post said. No opening date has been announced yet.
“The new theater will feature state-of-the-art projectors with leather seats and recliners, along with an updated drink and food menu,” Brewvies said in the post.
The location was previously home to a dine-in theater called MovieGrille, which closed in 2016. It briefly re-opened as Red Carpet Cinema in 2017.
Brewvies’ liquor license came under threat in 2016 when Utah's Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control filed a complaint after three undercover officers attended a screening of "Deadpool" in February.
The DABC contended the theater had violated a state law that bans serving alcohol during films with simulated sex or full-frontal nudity, according to previous reporting from The Salt Lake Tribune.
After an extended legal fight, the U.S. District Court issued a ruling in Brewvies’ favor on First Amendment grounds in 2017.
