Air med responds to Layton scene

A 4-year-old Layton boy was flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Layton Sunday, March 3, 2019, after a dog bit off his hand.

LAYTON -- A dog bit off the hand of a Layton child Sunday afternoon, emergency officials say. 

A 4-year-old boy reached through a fence to play with a neighboring husky when the dog bit down and amputated his hand above the wrist, according to reporting from The Deseret News

The boy was flown via medical helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City where he's in stable condition, Layton Fire Department said in a tweet. Surgical intervention will be required, LFD said. 

The boy's hand was not recovered from the scene, Layton Fire Battalion Chief Jason Cook told the Deseret News. 

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at a home in the area of 1100 North and 3600 West. The dogs have been taken into custody by animal control officers.
