Police lights breaking news

CLEARFIELD — A man who was punched in the face at a Clearfield gas station has died, according to police.

Brandon Stufflebean, 39, of Layton, succumbed to injuries he received in an altercation Wednesday afternoon with the store owner of Chevron gas station at 680 N. Main St., according to a news release from the Clearfield Police Department.

Clearfield police responded to a reported fight at the gas station at 1 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found Stufflebean unconscious and with a serious head injury.

According to interviews with witnesses and the Chevron owner, Stufflebean reportedly came into the store and got into an argument with employees over the purchase of a drink. The argument escalated, and Stufflebean was punched once in the face, causing the injury, police said.

Stufflebean was taken to Davis Hospital via ambulance where he was in extremely critical condition until his death.

The incident is considered an active case pending reports from the Office of the Medical Examiner and additional investigation. No arrests have been made as the investigation is ongoing.

The Davis County Attorney's Office will screen the case for the possibility of criminal charges when the investigation is complete, police said.
