Weber Canyon mudslide

Train tracks narrowly missed being swept away after a mudslide occurred nearby on the night on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in Weber County.

WEBER COUNTY — A mudslide in Weber County on Wednesday night prompted the closure of some nearby train tracks.

The Weber Fire District said in a Facebook post Thursday that the mudslide occurred just west of Weber Canyon and north of Interstate 84. A picture in the post depicts how close the slide came to a set of train tracks.

Officials say the cause of the slide appears to be runoff from recent rainfall.

Fire officials say representatives from Union Pacific responded to the scene and shut down a nearby train. The tracks will remain closed for the time being.

The Facebook post did not say what time officials were called out to the scene or who reported the mudslide.
