Ogden garage fire 112218

Fire crews responded to a garage fire at an Ogden home on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018.

OGDEN — Fire crews in Ogden responded to a fire in a garage Thursday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to a home at 2200 Jackson Ave. at 1:27 p.m., according to Ogden Fire Department Deputy Chief Eric Bauman.

When crews arrived, they found a fire in the home's garage and were able to extinguish the fire.

Everyone at the home was able to safely exit the home, and no injuries have been reported, according to Bauman. One person was displaced by the fire, OFD said in a tweet

Investigators later said that the fire was caused by an outdoor fire pit that was too close to the garage. Bauman said the fire pit was only a few feet from the garage when the fire started. The investigation is being handled by the fire marshal's office.

Bauman said most of the damage was limited to the garage attached to the home, but the home did have some smoke and fire damage as well. The fire also burned a nearby power line, Bauman said.

The estimated damage cost of the fire is $40,000.

A total of 17 firefighters from the Ogden and South Ogden fire departments were at the scene.
