Several Northern Utah cities made the list of the top 20 safest cities in the state, according to an annual ranking from a home security company

SafeWise uses the most recent statistics from the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting program and population data to create the list. The rankings are based on the number of reported violent crimes like murder and aggravated assault, and property crimes like burglary and vehicle theft per 1,000 people. 

As a whole, Utah's violent crime rate is 2.55 incidents per 1,000 people, which is almost half the national rate of 4.49, SafeWise said. 

However, Utah's overall property crime rate is nearly two points higher than the national average at 29.46. Utahns rated digital security and property crime as their most concerning safety issues on SafeWise's State of Safety survey.
