Fire trucks on scene

OGDEN — A fire on Monday at a downtown Ogden apartment complex, the Western Colony Inn, forced the evacuation of the property and caused around $20,000 in damages.

According to a press release from the Ogden Fire Department, the fire at the complex at 234 24th St. was called in shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday. Smoke was coming from one of the units, and firefighters safely evacuated all the apartments.

Firefighters from the Ogden and Riverdale fire departments responded, quickly extinguishing the blaze. The cause has not been determined, and the fire is still being investigated.

The person renting the unit where the fire occurred was no longer living there, according to Deputy Chief Eric Bauman. Officials were determining whether occupants of the other units would be able to return to their apartments.
