LAYTON — A Layton man died after being struck by a car Wednesday evening.

Nicholas Hiatt, 32, was crossing the street around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at 2080 N. Main St. when a northbound car struck him as he ran across the street, according to Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman.

Hiatt was wearing dark clothing and wasn't in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, Lyman said. The driver remained on scene.

Hiatt was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lyman said the fatal crash likely happened due to the "visibility issue" and that alcohol was not a factor.

The investigation into the crash remains open as police await toxicology results, which are standard practice in incidents like this.
