Woman's body found outside Ogden church on New Year's morning

Ogden police and crime scene investigators wait for the medical examiner to retrieve the body of a woman who was found frozen on New Year's morning, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, outside the First Baptist Church.

OGDEN — Police have released the identity of a woman found dead on New Year's Day near an Ogden church.

Police say the woman found was 46-year-old Ogden resident Frances Gomez, according to Lt. Brian Eynon with the Ogden Police Department.

Around 10:10 a.m. Jan. 1, police were dispatched to First Baptist Church of Ogden, located at 2519 Jefferson Ave. They found Gomez's body on a walkway alongside the church’s west wall.

Eynon said Monday afternoon that police believe Gomez's death was not suspicious, but the exact cause of her death is unknown until they receive a final report from the state medical examiner's office.

As of Monday, it was unknown whether the frigid January temperatures played a part in Gomez's death, Eynon said. According to the National Weather Service, the temperature fell to 10 degrees that night in Ogden.

A GoFundMe page dedicated to raising money for Gomez's funeral states she was a mother of three sons and a grandmother to eight grandchildren.
