RIVERDALE — Police in Riverdale shot a reportedly armed man Wednesday night after officers were sent to his apartment complex on Riverdale Road.

The Riverdale Police Department said in a press release Thursday morning that officers responded to a report Wednesday night of a suicidal male at Cherry Creek Apartments, located at 1551 W. Riverdale Road.

When officers arrived they tried for “some time” to peacefully resolve the situation with the man. Despite their efforts, police “encountered” the man.

Shots were fired by police, hitting the man. The release does not say how many shots were fired or how many times the man was shot.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he is last known to be in critical condition, the release says.

No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident.

When asked if the man had fired shots at officers, Riverdale Police spokesperson Lt. Casey Warren said he was unable to release any additional information that was not included in the press release.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office Critical Incident Task Force was called to the scene to investigate, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.

The press release from the Riverdale Police Department did not say how many officers fired at the man.

It is standard protocol for any officers involved in a shooting to be placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
