FARMINGTON — A previously convicted sex offender is accused of sexually assaulting an intellectually disabled teen in Davis County.

Jon David Stephens, a 49-year-old Riverdale resident, was charged Tuesday with one count of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony; object rape, a first-degree felony; and two counts of forcible sexual abuse, both second-degree felonies.

The Bountiful Police Department began investigating Stephens in June after the 18-year-old victim told her mother on June 5 that Stephens had allegedly molested her earlier that day, according to charging documents.

A forensic interview was done at the Children’s Justice Center, where the victim told investigators that Stephens was working for her mother in their Davis County home when the assault occurred. When she and Stephens were alone, he reportedly took her into a bedroom and asked the teen “if she could keep secrets,” according to charging documents.

Stephens then allegedly proceeded to sexually assault the teen. The victim told investigators that she allegedly asked Stephens to stop but he did not listen, charging documents allege.

Police say that Stephens knew the 18-year-old was intellectually disabled because the victim’s mother told police the two had talked about the teen’s disability in the past, according to charging documents.

Stephens is a convicted sex offender, and has an address listed in Riverdale.

According to court records, Stephens pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony count of sexual abuse of a child in 2000. He was ordered to serve a term of one to 15 years in the state prison.

As of Friday, Stephens was being held at the Davis County Jail. His first appearance in Farmington’s 2nd District Court is set for Nov. 28.
