OGDEN — Recent snowfall has made it possible for some Northern Utah ski resorts to open this week.

In a press release Tuesday, Snowbasin announced a handful of its slopes will open at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7.

The Needles Gondola, Littlecat Express and Middle Bowl Triple lifts will be open, along with a handful of runs: Sweet Revenge, Porky Traverse, Middle Bowl Traverse, Bear Hollow, Snowshoe, School Hill, Powder Puff and a small terrain park.

For the latest updates on open or closed runs at Snowbasin, check out its website, which offers run conditions and snow reports.

Nordic Valley is scheduled to start its lifts just a couple days later, on Saturday, Dec. 9, according to Ski Utah. The resort’s website says it started making snow Tuesday.

However, the recent snowfall wasn’t enough for Powder Mountain to open for the season. As of Tuesday afternoon, the resort does not have a tentative opening date set.

JP Goulet, marketing manager for Powder Mountain, said the resort does not make its own snow and relies solely on natural snowfall.

Goulet said the resort needs about 2 feet of snow as a good base before it can open. Once that happens, he said, the resort will set an opening date.

On Monday, National Weather Service Meteorologist Nick Carr said there is no snow in the forecast for the rest of the week and local temperatures will gradually increase as the week goes on.
