Ogden crash involving UTA bus kills man

An Ogden man died in a crash Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, after his car veered into a Utah Transit Authority bus on Washington Boulevard between 20th and 21st streets. The man was southbound on Washington in a Neon while the bus was northbound on Washington.

OGDEN — An Ogden man is dead after his vehicle collided early Friday morning with a Utah Transit Authority bus on Washington Boulevard.

The man, who police haven't identified pending notification of family, was southbound in a Dodge Neon, a small sedan, when he veered for some reason into the northbound lane, crashing into the northbound bus.

The crash, between 20th and 21st streets, occurred around 5:30 a.m. and the man died on the scene, according to Ogden Police Department Lt. Brian Eynon.

"Witnesses described the car veering from the southbound lane into the northbound lane. It could be number of reasons for that," Eynon said. Ogden police continue to investigate, assisted by UTA police, trying to piece together what happened.

Between 15 and 20 passengers were on the bus and they, as well as the driver, were checked but sustained no injuries, according to Eynon.

Authorities closed Washington Boulevard at the spot to traffic. Traffic in the southbound lanes was opened as of around 9 a.m. Friday and authorities were finishing clearing the scene in the northbound lanes.

The Neon sustained heavy damage in the front, driver's side corner, same as the bus. Both vehicles were removed from the scene in flatbed trucks.
