The Ogden Rescue Mission gave out free turkeys on Thursday, Dec. 15 in what has become an annual Christmas tradition for the Ogden non-profit. Each year, the homeless shelter and kitchen collects hundreds for turkeys to distribute. Before the giveaway began, recipients lined up along Wall Ave. while participants in the mission’s Fresh Start treatment program sorted grocery carts filled with frozen birds in the parking lot. Mission staff expected to give out more than 200 turkeys, but the day got off to a slow start with around 30 turkeys given out in the first hour.
