Letter: Romney leads on conservative climate solutions

Nov 12, 2021

The next generation of Utah Republicans is thankful to have practical conservative voices like Senator Mitt Romney’s joining the national conversation over how to best address and mitigate the impacts of our changing climate on our communities and economy. This is one of the most pressing issues facing my generation, and the Senator’s support for smart climate policies will help address it head-on.

That includes his work on both the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Growing Climate Solutions Act, a bill that would empower Utah farmers to play a larger role in curbing emissions.

The bipartisan infrastructure bill now passed by both the U.S. House and Senate will help advance clean energy solutions — from expanding our electric vehicle charging infrastructure to upgrading our entire energy grid. These investments will help continue reducing emissions while creating jobs and supporting economic growth.

Meanwhile, the Growing Climate Solutions Act, which Senator Romney introduced along with a bipartisan group of senators, would help Utah farmers and foresters access critical carbon credit markets that are currently too complex for many to navigate. This market-based approach would incentivize climate-friendly practices without resorting to government regulations, opening up new revenue streams for farmers while reducing our carbon footprint.

Young conservatives are glad Senator Romney is making climate change the priority it should be in Congress. We look forward to the good work ahead and urge other Republicans to join Senator Romney.
