Letter: Letter of thanks to Washington Heights Church

Jan 25, 2022

Here at YCC Family Crisis Center, we were able to provide Christmas gifts for 189 children this year thanks to the generosity of our community. These are children whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence, homelessness, and other traumatic experiences. We have worked long hours to provide life-altering services as well as Christmas for our clients for decades, but this year our staff was treated to a special gift. The Washington Heights Church provided individual care packages filled with goodies, gift cards, and goodwill. Pastor Jimi Pitts and his elves delivered more than seventy packages designed to thank our staff for what they do to take care of others. Members of their congregation spent their own time and money to prepare a package to be given to a member of our staff. During the holiday season, it is rare for caregivers to be cared for. The Washington Heights Church understands the burden felt by those working with people in trauma. I had the pleasure of helping to distribute the red boxes with the words “Love Gives” printed on the sides. It was so fun to see the delighted expressions on the faces of our employees as they opened their package and saw what was inside. We were not the only helping agency to benefit from their kind gifts, and we can’t begin to imagine how many hours went into pulling off such a monumental service project. At a time of year focused on hope these care packages really encouraged the encouragers. Many thanks to Washington Heights Church and to all those who sponsored children in need at YCC; together you made a huge difference.
