I think D. Louise Brown in her guest commentary covered the subject of the new state flag thoughtfully. I agree with her about the new flag looking like a “first grader drew it”, actually my first impression was that it resembled a cartoon flag.

I also thought as she did, who is behind this sudden change of our 120 year old flag? In the present atmosphere of rewriting history and pulling down statues of revered patriots of the past, could this be an attempt to begin undermining our unique and sacred history here in Utah?

I am somewhat surprised that our House and Senate felt good about spending the time and resources on such a project, especially in a time of increasing economic uncertainty.

How many States fly 2 flags and is that just an unnecessary and added burden, is also something to be considered. Well, I guess it is ultimately up to Governor Cox and we will find out soon what he decides. I for one hope he will reject the whole idea of a new flag. The fair and wise action would let the people not a small group of activists decide. Let’s put it on the ballot. My vote is to waive the new flag!
