OGDEN — Ogden detectives, backed up by a SWAT team, served a search warrant in an affluent neighborhood Tuesday morning, but the homicide suspect they were seeking was not there, police said.

Police vehicles, including the Weber County Sheriff’s Office’s armored tactical truck, surrounded the home on Regency Drive, and officers entered the home in search of a suspect in the shooting death of a man at about midnight Friday elsewhere in Ogden.

“Somebody got a tip that he may be in the house,” Ogden Police Lt. Clint Christensen said. “He wasn’t there, and that’s all it was.”

Early Saturday, Ogden officers went to the area of 240 North and 180 East on a reported gunshot wound that had occurred around midnight Friday. A preliminary investigation indicated a 30-year-old man was fatally shot in an altercation with a 31-year-old man, police said in a news release.

The suspect’s name has not been released and the victim’s identity was not disclosed. Christensen said he had no further details. Ogden detectives and the Weber County Homicide Task Force are investigating the shooting.

Lt. Cortney Ryan of the sheriff’s office said the Ogden Metro SWAT Team was called in to support Tuesday’s warrant service. He said the operation was conducted without incident and police had cleared the area by mid-morning.

Ogden Police Lt. Matthew Ward, SWAT Team commander, said officers found a man in the home and he was arrested on an outstanding warrant on an unrelated charge. It had nothing to do with the murder investigation, Ward said.
