BOUNTIFUL — A naked driver crashed into several cars early Sunday morning, causing one police officer to run for safety, and he was arrested after a SWAT standoff.

“The suspect appeared to have no ability to understand what was taking place around him,” a police probable cause statement said of Cory Lee Adams, 51, of Shoshone, Idaho.

Police said they converged on a pickup truck at about 2:30 a.m. reported to be driving erratically and that had apparently attempted to ram a car, according to a Bountiful Police Department social media post. The truck collided with a vehicle at 2600 S. Main St., and officers caught up with it at 1500 S. Main.

There, the pickup collided with a second car, rammed a police car and fled, then attempted to ram two more police vehicles before driving into a cul de sac, where the standoff occurred.

The first officer to arrive at 1500 S. Main said in the arrest affidavit that he told the driver to stay in the pickup. The driver, he said, “yelled at me. He was belligerent and appeared to be irate.”

The officer said he was standing behind his police cruiser when the driver rammed his pickup into the police car. “I fled from my vehicle as he approached,” the officer said.

“The suspect was completely nude at the time of arrest and poses a risk to society if he is able to obtain access to any weapon,” including a vehicle, the officer said in a request that Adams be held without bail.

Police said the South Davis Metro SWAT Team arrested Adams and took him to the Davis County Jail in Farmington. He is suspected of aggravated assault, reckless driving, leaving the scene of several accidents, disorderly conduct and failing to respond to police.
