OGDEN — Prosecutors filed charges Friday against a Roy man who was arrested on allegations that he uploaded videos depicting the sexual abuse of a female toddler.

Demontrel Vernon, 29, faces 10 counts of second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor after his arrest Thursday by Roy police.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on Wednesday alerted the Roy Police Department that a Google user had uploaded explicit sexual abuse videos. Charging documents by the Weber County Attorney’s Office said police traced the uploads to an account allegedly belonging to Vernon.

Two videos showed a man raping or otherwise sexually abusing a toddler, the arrest affidavit said. Vernon also allegedly possessed dozens of similar videos and photos.

Vernon was detained in Utah County and taken to Roy for a police interview. The arrest affidavit said Vernon waived his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with detectives. He allegedly admitted that he was the man shown in the two videos, according to the arrest affidavit. Vernon allegedly told police he wanted to “feel the power” he had over the victim.

Vernon was held at the Weber County Jail. He did not have an attorney of record as of Friday afternoon.
