OGDEN — Prosecutors on Friday filed charges against a Layton man in the alleged sexual abuse of a 9-year-old girl during the Fourth of July weekend and a second female child over a multi-year period.

Police said in charging documents that they are investigating additional cases with further charges possible against Russell Dean Johnson, 47.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office charged Johnson in 2nd District Court with aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, a first degree felony, in the July case. They filed a separate charge of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, plus second-degree felony counts of forcible sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor, related to the alleged abuse of a girl from 2006 through 2015.

Police arrested Johnson on Thursday morning and he was booked into the Weber County Jail, ordered held without bail.

According to an arrest affidavit, the 9-year-old girl told police that she was alone with Johnson during the July 4 holiday when he allegedly touched her genitals. Johnson told police he was “hammered” from drinking alcohol that evening, and police said that he allegedly admitted to sexually abusing the girl.

In the second case, the alleged victim, now an adult, confronted Johnson in text and social media messages, accusing him of being a pedophile, which resulted in him apologizing, according to a police affidavit. From age 5 to 15, the girl was sexually abused and explicit photos were taken, the girl told police.
