OGDEN — A man was arrested in Weber County over the weekend after he was accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

Carlos Cano, 47, is being held in jail on a dozen first-degree felony charges, consisting of four counts of rape of a child, four counts of sodomy on a child, four counts of object rape of a child, and four counts of object rape of a child. Cano is also facing four counts of lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Charging documents allege that the victim disclosed that Cano had been sexually abusing her for years. Police allegedly read emails between Cano and the victim where he asked her for sexual favors.

Police say that during an interview Cano allegedly confessed to the abuse, saying he “violated her,” charging documents say. He allegedly admitted to sexually abusing the girl in the same ways that she described the abuse to investigators.

As of Monday, Cano is being held without bail at the Weber County Jail. In charging documents, police indicated they are worried Cano would flee custody to Mexico after he mentioned how he would like to stay with relatives in Arizona.

Cano has yet to be given an initial appearance date in Ogden’s 2nd District Court and does not have an attorney listed in court documents.
