FARMINGTON — A couple in Davis County are facing sex abuse charges after a juvenile disclosed the abuse to investigators.

Cody R. Shepherd, 34, and Samantha Nicole Shepherd, 29, were booked into the Davis County Jail Thursday and are being held on sizable bail amounts.

Cody Shepherd is being held on five counts of rape of a child, a first-degree felony; two counts of object rape of a child, a first-degree felony; three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; two counts of sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony; one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; dealing in materials harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony; and a misdemeanor charge of providing a minor with alcohol.

Samantha Shepherd is being held on one count of object rape of a child, a first-degree felony; one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and one count of failure to report abuse of a child, a class B misdemeanor.

Police allege in charging documents that in January the victim alleged that Cody Shepherd had “sexually molested her over the course of four years.” During a forensic interview, the victim estimated that he had raped or sexually abused her between 40-50 times when she was between the ages of 10 and 14.

The victim later said that the alleged sexual abuse inflicted by Shepherd was so frequent that it became “normal,” according to the affidavit. The victim went on to detail the sexual abuse allegedly inflicted by Cody Shepherd.

The victim told police that Cody Shepherd allegedly took nude photos of her and he allegedly kept the photos on his computer and tablet inside his home. She also alleged that he would give her alcohol before the sexual assaults, charging documents say.

She told investigators that Samantha Shepherd was involved in at least one instance of sexual abuse while Samantha and Cody Shepherd were “sexually touching each other and the victim,” according to charging documents against Samantha Shepherd.

Cody Shepherd is being held in jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash-only bail. Samantha Shepherd is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Neither of the two have received an initial appearance date in Farmington’s 2nd District Court, nor do either have attorneys listed in online court documents.
